University of Plovdiv «Paisii Hilendarski» is a leading cultural, educational and scientific institution in the Republic of Bulgaria. It is the second largest university in South Bulgaria. Plovdiv University was founded in 1961 as a Pedagogical institute of natural and mathematical sciences. It was declared a University in 1972. Today Plovdiv University fully justifies and maintains its reputation of a University, educating students in more than forty subjects in the field of natural, humanitarian, social and economic sciences.
More than 900 lecturers and employees work at University of Plovdiv «Paisii Hilendarski» – 550 of them being highly qualified, permanently appointed lecturers – 30 professors, 160 associate professors, 360 assistants. Over 8000 full-time and 5000 extra-mural students are being educated in 9 faculties which suit all the requirements of Higher education act.
Plovdiv University disposes of a Library, Publishing house, Information center, specialized laboratories, language laboratories, computer-multimedia classes halls, Distance learning center, Career learning center, Scientific research Department (NPD), Sport center, University theatre, technical centers, service and repair sections. The university is officially accredited by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency in 2013 and provides teaching for the following educational degrees – «associate professional», «bachelor», «master» and «PhD» (Doctor of philosophy).
Plovdiv University maintains active international relations with almost all European countries, The United States of America and countries from Asia and Africa. It participates independently or in collaboration with other European countries in EU programs and American funds for science research. Plovdiv University stimulates the participation of scientists in different researches by creating conditions for the preparation of research projects, giving up the necessary equipment, providing for the technical service of the projects and supporting young and talented scientists. Plovdiv University provides full service in respect of financial, administrative, accounting and juridical issues through the Scientific research Department (NPD).
Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Plovdiv University is one of the largest and most promising faculties of the university, preparing professionals for the software industry and teachers of mathematics and ICT. Every year, FMI trains more than 1,500 students pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s or doctoral training programs in various specialties under the professional streams of Mathematics, Informatics and Computer Science, and Pedagogy of Teaching … In addition, FMI provides two postgraduate training programs leading to the qualifications of Teacher of Mathematics and Teacher of Informatics and Information Technologies, respectively.
